Sydney's LGBTQ+ friendly Synagogues

  • Eastern Suburbs:
    • Emanuel Synagogue Woollahra is a pluralist Progressive/Conservative congregation. Emanuel Synagogue is exceptionally welcoming of LGBTQ+ Jews, and is committed to equality and freedom from discrimination for all people.

      Their commitment to gay and lesbian congregants ranges from the hosting of the Shabbat Mardi Gras dinner, to the marriage of sample sex couples, to formal education and discussion evenings on issues of concern to the Gay and Lesbian community. The synagogue is located at 7 Ocean Street, Woollahra, close to Oxford St.

  • Inner-Western Suburbs:
    • Newtown Synagogue is an Orthodox congregation equally welcoming gays and lesbians. Set in a beautiful historic building at 20 Georgina Street, Newtown. This synagogue is close to the bars, shopping and dining experience of King Street.
  • North Shore:
    • North Shore Temple Emanuel is a gay-friendly Progressive congregation located at 28 Chatswood Avenue, Chatswood, a comfortable walk from the train station.

  • CBD:
    • The Great Synagogue Phone: +61 2 9267 2477. The mother congregation of Australian Jewry established about 1818. Synagogue consecrated 1878. Acclaimed heritage building (facing Hyde Park) with vibrant program of activities.
